About Us
Urban Data Collective delivers solutions to facilitate the sharing and utilisation of live data generated from an increasing number of sensors and smart infrastructure deployed across cities and urban spaces. Our mission is to democratise access to such data so that organisations and communities can create better urban futures.
Our main product is the Urban Data Exchange (UDX) platform that enables data owners to share real- time data from different systems in an easy and trusted way as open or commercial data, while at the same time enabling data users to find and access the live data streams they need. On top of UDX we also deliver insight services, to help users make sense of live data so they can take more informed decisions and actions, accelerating their journey to Net Zero and helping them become more sustainable and resilient.
As a company, we are backed by the Digital Catapult and have recently closed a successful seed funding round. Based remotely with occasional team get-togethers in the Greater London Area, this role offers an exciting opportunity to be a key part of a start-up team in its early days, driving the customer experience of a market defining SaaS platform and service ecosystem for live data sharing and use.
About the role
As UX/UI Designer, you will be an advocate for our end users, designing and building user centric journeys and seamless interfaces for data sharing and sense making, delivered through our UDX SaaS platform and insights services. Working closely with the Engineering Lead you will have a huge opportunity to comprehensively rethink and restructure our current product experiences as well as designing exciting new concepts.
We have many design questions to answer, and ideally you enjoy turning your hand to numerous tasks - from leading user research sessions to developing UX sitemaps to designing beautiful interfaces and interactions. However, as the company grows there is scope to evolve your role towards the aspects and responsibilities where you feel most drawn.
We currently work with Figma and Miro as collaborative design tools but you will have control over your direction and approach and we welcome proposals for new tools and techniques that will make us more efficient.
Working openly and collaboratively in our lean team, you will be engaging with various internal and external parties including our customers and stakeholders, software developers, and management - driving design discussions to balance user needs with business requirements.
Good communication is really important to us and ideally you enjoy articulating design concepts to a variety of different audiences and are comfortable presenting and live sketching ideas to get your thoughts across.
This role provides ample opportunities for you to continually learn and develop your skill set as well as contribute to the direction of a growing business. At Urban Data Collective, you can make a real difference to cities and communities by empowering others to share, innovate, and make better decisions with live data.
